Keep your Charm Factory jewelry looking beautiful for years with these simple care tips.

Understanding Sterling Silver

Our jewelry is crafted from .925 sterling silver — an alloy of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals (usually copper) for added durability. Sterling silver naturally develops a patina (tarnish) when exposed to air, moisture, and certain chemicals. This is completely normal and easy to manage.

Daily Care Tips

  • Put jewelry on last — after lotions, perfume, hairspray, and sunscreen
  • Remove before swimming, showering, cleaning, exercising, and sleeping
  • Wipe down with a soft, lint-free cloth after each wear
  • Avoid contact with household chemicals, bleach, and chlorine

Cleaning Your Jewelry

Regular Maintenance

Polish with a soft, lint-free silver polishing cloth. This removes light tarnish and restores shine in seconds.

Deep Cleaning

  1. Mix lukewarm water with a few drops of mild dish soap
  2. Soak jewelry for 5–10 minutes
  3. Gently scrub with a soft-bristle brush (a soft toothbrush works great)
  4. Rinse thoroughly under clean water
  5. Pat dry with a soft cloth — do not air dry

āš ļø Avoid chemical silver dips and ultrasonic cleaners for pieces with gemstones, crystals, or enamel — these can damage delicate elements.

Storage

  • Store in airtight bags or anti-tarnish pouches when not wearing
  • Use a compartmentalized jewelry box to prevent scratching
  • Keep in a cool, dry place — avoid bathrooms (humidity speeds tarnishing)
  • Separate pieces to prevent tangling and scratching

Pewter Care

Pewter is more resilient than silver and does not tarnish as readily. Clean with warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Do not use silver polish on pewter — it can damage the finish.

What to Avoid

Substance Why
Chlorine & bleach Causes pitting and discoloration
Perfume & hairspray Chemical residue accelerates tarnishing
Rubber bands Contain sulfur which blackens silver
Ammonia cleaners Too harsh for jewelry
Direct sunlight (prolonged) Can fade gemstones and crystals
